GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: This is a part-time, 27.5 hour per week, position located at the Emmetsburg Campus. Primary duties include secretarial, clerical and customer service. A sincere commitment to customer service is a necessity.

REPORT TO: Campus Store Coordinator


Constant (67-100%)

  1. Assist in various general office duties in the Bookstore.
  2. Perform secretarial and clerical tasks of word processing, filing, etc.
  3. Complete receiving and invoicing in store management system.
  4. Approve invoices for payment by accounts payable.
  5. Reconcile credits and process for accounts payable.

Frequent (34-66%)

  1. Monitor bookstore vouchers for student purchases.
  2. Monitor student refunds as needed.
  3. Compile or prepare reports as directed by supervisor.
  4. Place textbook orders with publishers.
  5. Assist students with textbook purchases and special orders.
  6. Charge student accounts for financial aid vouchers.
  7. Input course adoption information.

Occasional (10-33%)

  1. Will be required to work extra hours during peak registration periods.
  2. Assist in clothing and merchandise orders.
  3. Balance cash registers and input into software system when necessary.
  4. Verify accuracy of shelf/retail prices.
  5. Contact vendors and publishers for order discrepancies and damaged products.
  6. Assist with freshman orientation.
  7. Substitute for other staff during absences (vacation, sick, etc.).


  1. Thorough knowledge of office procedures, telephone techniques and office equipment.
  2. Knowledge of English usage, grammar and punctuation.
  3. Knowledge and experience working with numbers for purposes of retail, cash register, bill payments, invoicing.
  4. Knowledge of computers and ability to access, input, calculate, and retrieve information from a computer for word processing, spreadsheets and the mainframe.
  5. Must be able to work as a team member.
  6. Must be enthusiastic and energetic in performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  7. Represent the college in a positive manner to employees, students, visitors, and the general public.
  8. Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions or communication.


Medium work. Position involves sitting and standing; exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently (34-66%). Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying, occasionally (10-33%). Walking, lifting, and grasping frequently (34-66%). Talking, hearing, viewing various types of close visual work, and repetitive motion, constantly (67-100%). May be required to travel utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalency required. Good computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets required.

SALARY: $12.15 per hour

FRINGE BENEFITS: Paid vacation, sick leave and holidays. Employee Retirement Plan.
