Spencer campus student senators organize blood drive for Oct. 9
To meet the needs of hospitals in Iowa, the Spencer Campus of Iowa Lakes is teaming up with LiveServe Blood Center. Spencer campus student senators will conduct a drive in early October to help in that effort.
They are hosting a Spencer Community Blood Drive on Monday, Oct. 9 at the Massage Therapy classroom located inside of the Spencer Campus at 1900 Grand Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointments are required, walk-ins are welcome.
“This year, our goal is to accomplish 25 blood donations with 3 being first timers. We will be handing out coupons for every donor who volunteers,” said Blake Viedenkamp.
Pizza Ranch, Subway, and Goal Kick have teamed up with Iowa Lakes and LifeServe to encourage the community to donate blood. Each donor will receive a 25 percent off coupon to Goal Kick, a free Subway cookie, and $3 discount on an adult buffet to Pizza Ranch.
Over 90 percent of Americans will need blood sometime in their life, yet only about 6 percent donate. A single blood donation can save the lives of up to three sick or injured people. The LiveServe Blood Center is committed to serving the needs of Iowans by saving lives through volunteer blood donation. Eligible donors must be at least 16 years of age, be in general good health and weigh at least 120 pounds.
