Faculty-Driven Assessment Discussed at Iowa Lakes Trustee Meeting
Robert Leifeld, Vice President of Administration, and Lecia Berven, Faculty Assessment Liaison, led the presentation.
Iowa Lakes Community College conducts assessments at various levels, allowing the college to evaluate the quality of its educational programs and administrative functions and to use the assessment results to continually improve. These assessments are included in the college's integrated planning process, known as the Iowa Lakes Strategic Plan, the college's operational planning tool.
Over the past couple of years, Iowa Lakes has had a strong focus on faculty-driven assessment.
"The faculty and staff of Iowa Lakes Community College are dedicated to our students and our college's future. With a faculty-driven assessment process, they exceed expectations and are focused on continuous quality improvements of the services the college offers to our students. I would like to recognize the faculty and staff at Iowa Lakes for going above and beyond and for the considerable amount of time, passion, and effort given to assessment processes," said Leifeld.
Lecia Berven, Faculty Assessment Liaison, provided a tutorial on how the faculty and staff use the "Assessment at Iowa Lakes" Canvas Course. Berven was integral in the creation of this course for faculty.
"The Canvas assessment course, Assessment at Iowa Lakes, is our "one-stop-shop" for everything dealing with assessments. The course serves as the platform for providing faculty with the tools they need to assess student learning. It is transparent, all-inclusive, and tells the story of assessment at Iowa Lakes," said Berven.
Robert Leifeld, Vice President of Administration, also presented new faculty members to the Board. Faculty members introduced were Monica Edmonds, Nursing Instructor; Dwayne Hoss, Assistant Chief Flight Instructor; Dr. Tanner Metz, Assistant Professor Science; Weston Miller, Computer Programming & Game Design Instructor & Coordinator, and Laurie Pearson, Cosmetology Instructor & Coordinator.
In other business, Jolene Rogers, Executive Director of Community and Business Relations, received approval to accept a donation to the Oliver Anderson Memorial Scholarship. The Oliver Anderson Memorial Scholarship is for Estherville-Lincoln-Central graduates who participate in a collegiate sport.
The Trustees also accepted a preliminary 260E New Jobs Training agreement for a company in Emmet County with a pledge to add 40 new jobs to the project. Four companies are included in the bond project, with a total of 104 new jobs pledged.
Additionally, Rogers shared, "Iowa Lakes has a wide variety of training options available through Continuing Education. In 2020, more than 50 companies within the Iowa Lakes District have taken advantage of business training opportunities for their employees. The Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, on the Estherville Campus at the SERT Facility. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm.
