New speaker set for 30th Annual Fun & Wellness Day
A new speaker has been added to the lineup for the 30th Annual Fun & Wellness Day on Wednesday, May 17, at the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
Teacher, coach, middle school principal and speaker Kent Stock is widely known for coaching the Norway baseball team during its now-famous last season. As shown in the 2007 film “The Final Season,” the team came together under Stock in his first year as a coach to defy the odds and earn Norway’s 20th state title. It was the team’s last season before the school merged with a larger, neighboring school district.
Stock is also the author of “Heading for Home: My Journey from Little League to Hollywood.”
Doors open at the event at 7:45 a.m., and Stock is scheduled to give his keynote address at 8:45 a.m. Stock takes the place of speaker Al Batt, who will be unable to attend.
Fun & Wellness Day features a day of activities, health screenings, workshops and entertainment for those 50 years and better. A second keynote address will be given by Mike Piepel, who will present “Hollywood Through Its Posters” beginning at 1 p.m.
There is no advance registration. Cost is $10 at the door and includes keynotes, break-out sessions, continental breakfast, and a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings for lunch.
Fun & Wellness Day is sponsored by Iowa Lakes Community College and the Palo Alto County Health System. For more information call 1-800-242-5108 ext. 5223.
