Marketing Efforts at Iowa Lakes Featured at January Trustees Meeting
The Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College met Tuesday afternoon in Estherville and reviewed the college’s marketing efforts to attract students of all ages.
Jane Campbell, Executive Director of Marketing for the college, introduced team members who shared their accomplishments as well as their goals for the future.
Marketing is evolving and more options for promoting the college – and its programs – are available nearly every day. This offers lots of opportunities, yet, staff must continue to track results including which media reach the college’s target audience the best.
“We have a staff with great expertise and creativity working to achieve goals of the future,” Campbell said. “I feel we are using the strengths of each of our co-workers to advance the college.”
Following their presentation, Jolene Rogers, Community and Business Relations Executive Director, presented a 260 E Preliminary Agreement which allows a firm in the Iowa Lakes region to be a part of this year’s bond sale. She indicated that several other 260E and 260F projects are in progress.
The trustees thanked Rogers for her family’s gift of $10,000 for an endowed scholarship to support students seeking agriculture or accounting degrees.
On the subject of scholarships, she pointed out that the priority deadline for scholarship applications is Feb. 1. Some 200 applications have been started, with 60 already completed. The application is done completely online. Requests will be reviewed again on March 1 and April 1. This new process helps students make an informed decision as to what college they will attend this fall.
Early retirement applications were presented by Kathy Muller, Executive Director of Human Resources. The Trustees accepted six early retirements. The retirements will be effective June 30, 2017.
Other items of business involved Delaine Hiney, Executive Director of Facilities Management. Updates were given on the Student Services addition in Emmetsburg, the footprint for the Algona Tietz Entrepreneurial Center and the Fine Arts facility in Estherville. The date of Feb. 7 at 10:30 a.m. was set to receive and publically open the Spencer Gateway project bids on a building façade and new roof. A public hearing is set for Feb. 14 in Estherville.
Also during the meeting, the Trustees reviewed the FY 16 Audit Report completed by Williams and Company. The report was issued as an unmodified opinion which means the report was a ‘clean’ review and continues the history of the college for good audit reports. The Trustees then set the date of Feb. 14 for a public hearing on the published budget for the 2018 Fiscal Year.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, in Estherville.
Seth Hatland, Marketing & Media Specialist/Design Artist, showed the Trustees of Iowa Lakes a portion of some of the projects he has worked on as Jane Campbell, Executive Director of Marketing, operates the PowerPoint.
This PowerPoint slide shows a variety of projects and subject matter that marketing staff members cover.
