Janice k. Lund Performing Arts Center Building Dedication & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

August 5, 2020

(Estherville, Iowa) Iowa Lakes Community College hosted the official Building Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center on Thursday, July 30.

With over 100 guests in attendance, the ceremony featured speeches from each of the Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees, MJ Dolan, the Executive Director of the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT), Iowa Lakes President, Valerie Newhouse, Scott Stokes the Executive Dean of Estherville Campus, and from honoree, Janice K. Lund, who is the President of the Iowa Lakes Board of Trustees.

“Architects design buildings with a personality a lot of times it reflects the personality of someone highly involved with this project. That is true today. The Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center has grace and eloquence that reflect beauty both inward and outward… It has a flare! Almost sassy and jazzy in some ways, letting you know I am here. All of these attributes, along with many more, reflect those of Jan Lund,” shared Bob Jennings, Trustee for District 7.

After the ceremony, the ribbon-cutting commenced, followed by the unveiling of the dedication plaque for Janice K. Lund located inside the mezzanine of the new Performing Arts Center, with tours of center occurring before and after the ceremony. Throughout the evening, Glenn Henriksen provided piano music.

“This project is truly the capstone of the projects planned by Iowa Lakes for many years. When we took this list of projects to our constituents in 2016 and asked them to support a 16 million dollar Bond Referendum, they overwhelmingly said YES! YES to the future, YES to the ARTS for Iowa Lakes Community College, and, most importantly, YES to our students!” exclaimed Valerie Newhouse, Iowa Lakes President.

In 2016, the constituents of the five counties within the Iowa Lakes Community College District approved a bond referendum to fund the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center along with various projects completed on each of the five campuses of Iowa Lakes Community College.

“Over the past several months, we have been anxiously awaiting the completion of this project and for the opportunity to celebrate. As the coronavirus encompassed the globe, we had to make adjustments in our schedules, and we eliminated large group events held on campus. These adjustments were not made lightly but were made to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. This event is not what we had initially planned. Still, in so many ways, it is better because it allows us to focus on our students, our communities, and the wonderful people who made this possible,” explained Newhouse.
