Iowa Lakes handbell choir to perform
Iowa Lakes Community College Handbell Choir will present a free concert for area residents at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 7.
The public is invited to attend the performance at the First Presbyterian Church, 3501 Hill Avenue, in Spirit Lake. The First Presbyterian Handbell Choir will also perform two selections with the college handbells.
The Iowa Lakes Community College Handbell Choir performs on a six-octave range, from G2 to G8, of Schulmerich handbells. The bells are made of bronze and range in weight from four ounces to 15 pounds. The choir also supplements handbells with a six-octave set of handchimes.
The Iowa Lakes Community College Handbell Choir performs at Estherville Lincoln Central April 11.
Many different handbell techniques, from the singing bowl to the gyro effect, will be used in the concert, which will include a wide variety of music.
Free will donations will be accepted toward the purchase of new bass handchimes.

Handbells are typically rung by hand, as the name implies, but can also produce a wide variety of sounds using mallets, padded tabletops and other methods.
