Fun & Wellness Day to feature humor, Hollywood, hobbies and roast beef
UPDATE: One of the keynote speakers for the 30th Annual Fun & Wellness Day set for Wednesday, May 17 at the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College has changed.
Teacher, coach and middle school principal Kent Stock will now be giving the morning keynote address. Stock coached the Norway baseball team during its now-famous final season, as shown in the 2007 film, “The Final Season.” The team came together to defy the odds and win Norway’s 20th state title in its last season before merging with a neighboring school district. Kent is the author of “Heading for Home: My Journey from Little League to Hollywood.”
From the back woods of Minnesota to the glamour of old Hollywood, two keynote speakers will share their interests with humor, art and stories at the 30th Annual Fun & Wellness Day at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg on Wednesday, May 17.
In the morning, Minnesotan humorist and author Al Batt will take the stage. Batt, who writes humor and nature columns for many newspapers and magazines, also hosts a radio show about nature, writes nationally-syndicated cartoon strips and has hosted TV shows too. He is the author of the book “A Life Gone to the Birds.”
The afternoon keynote, “ Hollywood Through Its Posters,” will be given by Mike Piepel, who will share his collection of original movie posters along with stories of the film industry with a focus on Iowa’s influence. His presentation will cover movies from the 1930s through the 1960s and include tales of the larger-than-life stars who lit up the silver screen in Hollywood’s golden era.
