Iowa Lakes convocations to feature Title IX issues, spinal cord injury survivor
Iowa Lakes Community College would like to extend an invitation to the public to attend the 2017-2018 convocation series. Convocations were implemented as a means of bringing cultural and diverse events to campus and the community. The events have proven to be extremely popular among the students, local schools, and community members. Convocations are free and open to the public.
Tim Collins will present an award winning one-man show about men, masculinity, and sexual assault prevention. His show will address a range of critical Title IX issues, including: Bystander Intervention, Informed Consent, and Intimate Violence.
Collins will be in the Emmetsburg Campus Gymnasium on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. and in the Estherville Campus Gymnasium on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
Chris Norton suffered a severe spinal cord injury playing college football and was told he would never walk again. He defeated all odds and walked across the stage of his college graduation at Luther College, which inspired millions across the world.
Norton calls us to focus on response, instead of situation, as well as to be defined by attitude rather than circumstance.
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, he will be in the Estherville Campus Gymnasium at 10 a.m. and again in the Emmetsburg Campus Gymnasium at 1 p.m. that same day.
“We are excited about the individuals coming to Iowa Lakes to share their experiences and bring their wealth of knowledge and culture to our campuses and community,” stated Katie Larson, Student Senate Coordinator for the Estherville campus.
