Community invited to photography event
Area photography enthusiasts can bring their cameras, phones or tablets and get ready to start composing images at Gull Point State Park as part of the upcoming annual Worldwide Photo Walk.
David Petrick, lead adjunct of the Iowa Lakes Community College photography program, will lead the local event, which will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 7. Walkers will start and finish at the lodge parking lot of the Gull Point State Park Interpretive Trail in Milford.
“There are many options — you can hike the interpretive trail, explore the lakeshore and the beach area. There are deer and other wildlife, also different types of plants and scenic areas,” Petrick wrote of the upcoming event.
All types of camera are welcome, and tripods are acceptable. Petrick encouraged participants to wear hiking shoes and long pants if they plan to go off the mowed trails. They should also dress for the weather and bring insect repellent.
The walk is free, but participants are encouraged to sign up at worldwidephotowalk.com. Additionally, donations are encouraged to Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya, which the Worldwide Photo Walk supports.
Participants can enter one photo from the walk into the WorldWide Photowalk contest.
Following the walk, people are welcome to join the group for lunch at Pizza Ranch in Spirit Lake.
