Students plan blood drive for Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes

March 20, 2018

Students from the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College are planning a blood drive in early April.

Student senators and nursing students will assist the Blood Center of Iowa in collecting blood on Tuesday, April 3 from 10Emmetsburg Campus a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held at the Smith Wellness Center at 3200 College Drive. To schedule an appointment, call 712-852-5311. Walk-ins will be accepted as the schedule permits, so appointments are encouraged.

“We can’t save local lives without you,” said Nathan Naber, president of the Emmetsburg Student Senate. “Your donation could help save a neighbor, a friend, a family member or a stranger.”

In addition, students in the Marine Service Technology program assist the LifeServe staff with unloading and loading the equipment needed for the day.

Over 90 percent of Americans will need blood sometime in their life, yet only about 6 percent donate. A single blood donation can save the lives of up to three sick or injured people. The LifeServe Blood Center is committed to serving the needs of Iowans by saving lives through volunteer blood donation. Eligible donors must be at least 16 years of age, be in general good health and weigh at least 120 pounds. To learn more about the LifeServe Blood Center, call 800-287-4903 or visit lifeservebloodcenter.org.

LifeServe works with more than 120 hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
