Federal Emergency Relief Fund Payments for Iowa Lakes Students
Current Iowa Lakes students are receiving payments from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, a federal grant funded by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Payments are now being issued to eligible students.
The federal program allows Iowa Lakes to provide cash grants to students for expenses related to disruptions to their education due to the COVID-19 outbreak, including things like course materials and technology as well as food, housing, health care, and childcare.
Eligible students receiving payments include:
- Full-time (12 credits or more) Title IV/FAFSA eligible student receive $925 each
- Part-time (6 credits or less) Title IV/FAFSA eligible student receive $450 each
A student’s credits are determined by what they were enrolled in at the time of campus closure and do NOT include already completed credits.
Ineligible Students include:
- Non-Title IV/FAFSA eligible
- Fully on-line/web student
**Though initial grant funds are limited, we are coordinating additional resources that can be used to help students address these concerns. Title IV/FAFSA eligible students whose education has been severely impacted may apply for additional funds by completing the Student Emergency Funds Application Form application by June 1, 2020. Receipts/documentation may be required.

No, the grant is for the spring 2020 term only.
I lost my job, can I get a grant because of that?
No, the funds can only be applied to cover expenses due to the disruption of campus operations this spring.

No, you need to be Title IV eligible to receive the grant.

This grant is not includible in your gross income.
