Student Testimonial: Jarvis Weber

The newest golf and enrollment coach at Iowa Lakes Community College may seem familiar, and there’s a good reason for that — Jarvis Weber is an Iowa Lakes graduate himself.

He earned his associate’s degree in 2010 as a two-time Presidential Scholar, a two-time Infinity Scholar and a distinguished academic all-American for golf.

“I am extremely excited and thankful to be given the opportunity to continue and progress the long tradition of success that the Iowa Lakes golf program has seen through the coaching of Dan and Andy Soper,” Weber said.

While at Iowa Lakes, he played golf under Dan Soper for two seasons, qualifying for nationals in his sophomore season. Weber’s scoring average was around 75, and he was on the 2008-2009 team, which still holds the record for the highest winning percentage in a single season.

“I’m very excited to add Jarvis to Iowa Lakes. Having been a former Laker who was very successful in both the classroom and on the course, he is a great fit,” said Athletic Director Troy Larson. “He understands Iowa Lakes and what makes this a special place. He will be able to use that expertise in recruiting for both the men’s and women’s teams.”

Weber, a graduate of Martin County West High School in Sherburn, Minn., was also a four-time club champion at Fox Lake Golf Club in Sherburn, where he tied the course record of 28 in 2010.

After graduating from Iowa Lakes, Weber transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in turfgrass management. He served as assistant golf course superintendent at the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, S.D.

“I am truly grateful to be coming back to Iowa Lakes as an enrollment coach and as a golf coach to give future students and golfers the same experience that I was given when I was a student athlete here at Iowa Lakes,” Weber said.

He thanked the current golf team, the board, Larson, Director of Admissions Annie Kalous and Executive Dean of Students Julie Williams for the opportunity.

“(Weber) has a great golf mind and will be able to coach our players up,” Larson said. “We’re anxious to see where he can take our golf programs.”
