Student Testimonial: John Wills
In the late 1980s, a professor and Iowa Lakes Community College became an excellent match to help get Rep. John Wills off to a good start on his career.
Wills, originally from Sibley, earned his degree in Environmental Studies in 1987. He reports his favorite college professor was Gary Phillips, who recently retired.
While at Iowa Lakes, he was active in the Environmental Club.
“I think the personal nature of Iowa Lakes was a great benefit to me,” said Wills. “I was able to get a good education at a lower price than a private college or Regents University.”
That early success prompted him to achieve even more educational goals.
“I continued my education after Iowa Lakes and now have two master’s degrees.” Wills said, “I do not think I would have achieved this if not for Iowa Lakes and the foundation that I received from the small and personal nature of the campus and the staff at the college.”
Rep. Wills is currently a Water Quality Coordinator with Dickinson County Clean Water Alliance. He is active in water quality and conservation work and is the Vice President of the Okoboji Protective Association working to protect water resources.
Rep. Wills has been the State Representative for Iowa House District 1 since January 2015.
