Pass rate 100% for Iowa Lakes Surg Tech students
Surgical Technology instructors at Iowa Lakes Community College’s Spencer campus have been notified that all 2017 graduates of the program passed the national board exam and are now officially Certified Surgical Technologists (CST). This is the second year in a row for this achievement.
All graduates are certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and will begin their jobs with their newly-approved credentials.
“We work hard to prepare the students for this exam throughout the program as it is a comprehensive exam spanning all items required by our curriculum,” stated Assistant Professor Dana Grafft, CST, BOE, FAST. “It is a difficult exam with national passage rates around 75%.
"These students graduated this summer after completion of requirements in the diploma and/or Associate in Applied Science degree which includes over 500 hours of practicum experience in area hospitals and surgery centers.”
Students passing the exam include: Chelsea Kirchner, Estherville; Caley O’Leary Holman, Milford; Kirby Bouillon, Greene; Levon Scheevel, Cresco; and Alexandra Kamstra, Orange City.
The Surgical Technology Diploma and A.A.S. Degree programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Committee on Education Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).
Instructors of the Surgical Technology program include Assistant Professor Dana Grafft, CST, BOE, FAST; and Instructor Mary Westphalen, CST.
