The Iowa Lakes Community College Educational Talent Search Program offers many different components, all focused on the student's success in middle school and high school. ETS also assists with successful transitioning into post-secondary programs. All services are free.
All students are part of the college bound program. Educational Talent Search advisors will visit with each student in their respective schools once a month during the school year. Staff will offer information on: careers, financial aid, transition to high school and college, study skills, test taking skills, time management, self esteem, civic responsibility, making friends and more. Staff will also share information about upcoming campus visits, workshops, and trips designed to expose the students to many opportunities beyond their current environment.
All students are welcome to participate in various college visits, enrichment activities and workshops. These activities are advertised in our newsletters which are mailed to students each month. In addition, newsletters also provide information about financial aid, study tips, college processes and more.
Study Labs/Homework Club
Students are invited to attend our study labs and homework clubs. Study labs are offered once a week through the school year at three different locations. Homework clubs are offered twice a week in two different school districts. These opportunities provide weekly academic assistance from certified instructors and college tutors. See our Study Lab page for location information.
Success for Sixth
Students in the sixth grade are encouraged to participate in this after school program that deals with positive, healthy life choices and valuable lessons that contribute to good decision making, self-esteem and getting along with others. This program is offered in most schools in the fall and ends with a fun celebration.
Give Me 5
Once a student has completed the fifth grade, they are eligible to take part in this fun event, to introduce students to the Educational Talent Search program.
This four day, three night camp is jam packed with fun, educational and social activities and offered to upcoming seventh and eighth graders every June. The camp is held on the Iowa Lakes Community College campus, with off campus adventures planned. Students come from all over to meet new friends and reconnect with old.
