Iowa Small Business Development Center Maintains National Accreditation

October 18, 2013

The Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) network was reviewed by its national association, America’s SBDC, and based on the outstanding progress of the network and the findings and recommendations of the accreditation team, maintains its full accreditation as a high quality economic development organization.

Accreditation is confirmation of the excellent work performed by the Iowa Small Business Development Centers when assisting Iowa’s small business community. It also qualifies the Iowa SBDC network to continue to apply for and receive federal funds administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Small Business Development Centers.

The Iowa SBDC network has been nationally accredited since the requirement was first instituted by America’s SBDC in the 1990s.

“We are very proud to have maintained our national accreditation,” says Jim Heckmann, State Director of the Iowa SBDC. “This honor recognizes and affirms the professionalism of the Iowa Small Business Development Center network. We are the only accredited small business technical assistance provider in the state.”

This achievement will be recognized in September 2014 at the national America’s SBDC conference in Dallas, Texas.

The Northwest Iowa Small Business Development Center is hosted by Iowa Lakes Community College. The Director is Kelly McCarty who can be reached at 712-262-4213.

The Northwest Iowa SBDC serves 10 counties providing practical, hands-on assistance to all types of businesses, from start-ups to 500 employee firms, to companies with new and promising technologies. Services are free, confidential and customized. The SBDC is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The Iowa Small Business Development Center is an outreach program of Iowa State University's College of Business. Partially funded by the U. S. Small Business Administration, the organization has 15 regional assistance centers located strategically across the state and one international trade center located centrally. Since program inception in 1981, the Center has helped hundreds of thousands of Iowa businesses and entrepreneurs.
