What is RSS?
RSS (an acronym that here stands for "Really Simple Syndication") is an XML-based file format used to provide items containing short descriptions of web content together with a link to the full version of the content to a variety of programs. It allows you to quickly scan news from multiple sites in one location.
Iowa Lakes Community College RSS feeds will allow you to read the news and events from the college at your own convenience.
How to use RSS feeds
To view our RSS feeds
you will first need to
acquire an RSS Reader or
RSS Web application.
Websites offering an
RSS feed
usually display a small
orange "XML"
or blue or orange "RSS"
icon or button. To add
one of the RSS feeds you
click on the appropriate
link, copy the URL and
paste it into your RSS
Application.
When you want to read the content published by the websites you've subscribed to, you tell your feed reader to update those feeds. The feed reader retrieves information from the RSS feed file and displays the headline or title for each news item. When you select the headline/title, additional information about that item displays, along with a link to the full content on the publisher's website.
As an alternative to downloading a program on your computer you can use a Web-based news reader. Some examples are My Yahoo! and MY MSN.
