GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
This is a grant-funded (FY14 and 15), part time position for approximately 32 weeks a year/25 hours a week, five (5) hours a day, Monday-Friday, on the Emmetsburg Campus. The lab assistant is responsible for assisting with a part-time assignment of shop-lab sessions as defined by the College. The primary role is set up and use of welding equipment and materials, demonstrating and use of welding techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF TIME)
- As directed by the program instructor, organize shop-lab sessions; set up and use welding equipment and materials.
- Demonstrate and use welding techniques with students and program projects.
- Maintain record of equipment condition, repair needs and supplies.
- Assignments may include various methods, work schedules, and locations.
- Maintain established (office) hours.
- Monitor student performance in shop-lab.
- Make referrals, when deemed necessary, to other College personnel, such as the Executive Dean, counselor, Financial Aid, etc., for more specialized information and assistance.
- Assist with program recruitment.
- Engage in professional development activities and keep current with developing trends and ideas in profession.
- Attend Program Advisory Committee meeting(s).
- Assist in the enhancement of communications within the College and community.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate tools and equipment unique to the welding industry.
- Ability to organize and assist with various welding skills and concepts to a wide range of student with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust techniques accordingly.
- Present oneself in a shop-lab setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies and practices.
- Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with student, staff, administrators and other contacts.
- Read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communication.
- Possess strong human relations skill and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.
- Be a creative, energetic and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
- Possess a working knowledge of personal computers.
- Represent the College in a positive manner with prospective, former and current students, staff and the community.
Position involves sitting or standing in an office or shop-lab setting. In a shop-lab setting the physical requirements of a welder are required. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently, 50 pounds of force occasionally, and infrequently higher force. Required to operate equipment common to the welding trade. May be required to operate personal vehicle for College business (expenses reimbursed).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be familiar with all welding processes used at the College: GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, OFW, OFC, PAC, Brazing and Soldering
SALARY: $17.15/hr 25 hrs/wk (5 hours a day Monday-Friday)
