RSVP Volunteer Program Coordinator, Kossuth County

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: This is a part-time position (15-20 hours/week) housed at the Iowa Lakes Community College, Algona Campus. Primary responsibilities are to recruit, train, and place volunteers at public agencies and with non-profit organizations. Hours are somewhat flexible with very little evening or weekend work.

REPORT TO: RSVP Director 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES % of TIME

Constant (67-100%)

  1. Recruit, screen, train and place volunteers at public agencies and non-profit organizations as tutors, mentors, volunteer drivers, companions, friendly visitors and in other positions to meet program goals.
  2. Work with community organizations to increase the number of volunteers in the primary focus area, Healthy Futures, as well as other RSVP focus areas including: Education, Environment, Services for Veterans & Families, Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation, Environment and Economic Development.

Frequent (34-66%)

  1. Maintain frequent contact with volunteers, volunteer site managers, Department of Human Services, Elderbridge Area Agency on Aging,  churches, local organizations and school personnel.
  2. Oversee the RSVP transportation program, recruiting and placing volunteers as drivers.
  3. Maintain accurate records and collect data on program operations and program effectiveness. 
  4. Produce and submit necessary reports, conduct performance measurement,  and provide information for reports to the RSVP Director as required by the Corporation for National Service.
  5. Coordinate advisory council meetings; type and mail meeting minutes and agendas.

Occasional (10-33%)

  1. Attend required training events and staff meetings.
  2. Promote public awareness of RSVP and promote volunteer opportunities.
  3. Seek additional local financial support and in-kind support from the community for RSVP.
  4. Evaluate program effectiveness as directed.
  5. Ensure that all volunteers have rewarding and challenging volunteer experiences; provide opportunities for feedback from volunteers and provide ongoing recognition activities.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  1. Ability to work well with people of all ages (not just seniors); familiar with Kossuth County organizations, public agencies and residents. 
  2. Must be creative in developing new projects and volunteer opportunities based on identified community needs. 
  3. Ability to manage time efficiently, deal effectively with problems and exercise good judgment.
  4. Ability to speak to community service organizations, city government bodies, and public agencies in an effort to raise awareness of the program.
  5. Possess leadership, management and communication skills. 
  6. Basic computer skills (word processing and email) required. 
  7. Highly motivated and able to work without close supervision, but willing to accept direction and guidance from the director.
  8. Represent Iowa Lakes Community College and RSVP in a most positive manner to employees, students, visitors and the general public.

SPECIAL DEMANDS: Sedentary to light work. Position involves sitting most of the time with some local travel; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%). Stooping, crouching, pushing, and pulling occasionally (10-33%). Walking, lifting, carrying and grasping frequently (34-66%). Talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work constantly (67-100%). Required to travel locally utilizing personal vehicle.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in education, human services, counseling or related area preferred but not required. Successful experience in working with community organizations or agencies and with volunteers desired.

SALARY: $11.60 / hr.
