It
is widely recognized that the first eight years of life are extremely
important in the development of a child. This fact, coupled with dramatic
social and economic changes in recent years, leads to the importance of
understanding what is necessary to provide quality early childhood care
and education. Students have the opportunity to transfer to a university or seek employment in the Early Childhood field. This
program offers the student to take a variety of coursework as well as be
involved in field experiences in early childhood settings.
Students gain a basic understanding of child development, child health,
safety and nutrition, curriculum planning as well as broaden their background in general
education and develop an awareness of current issues in the profession and
administration processes.
Students learn a variety of
skills including observing, recording and guiding behavior; first aid; CPR;
planning, preparing and presenting developmentally appropriate curriculum;
advocating for early childhood issues; and administering early childhood
programs. Students will complete a professional resource file, a personal
portfolio, and a card file of appropriate children’s activities throughout
this program.
