ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSY-241) 3 credits
The complex causes, manifestations, and treatments of common behavior disorders will be examined as well as mental health issues from patients’ perspective and analysis from therapists.

                                                      

AMERICAN NATIONAL GOVERNMENT (POL-111) 3 credits
The nature, scope, purpose, structure and organization of the United States government will be examined and the potential for individual involvement will be emphasized.
AMERICAN HISTORY TO 1877 (HIS-151) 3 credits
The human story as well as political and economic stories of America will be explored. From early history to the Civil War and Reconstruction, students will see how wars and treaties, elections and legislation, have impacted the people of the United States.
AMERICAN HISTORY SINCE 1877 (HIS-152) 3 credits
This study focuses on the people, events, and politics of the United States since the late 1800’s.  Utilizing historical film clips, photographs, and interviews, students will be able to analyze the recent history of the United States.

                                             

AMERICAN POETRY (LIT-124) 3 credits
Students will examine the lives and works of thirteen of America’s greatest poets.  Emphasis is on analyzing and interpreting literature and improving writing skills.

                                                                      

ART HISTORY (ART-206) 3 credits
From ancient Greece to the present, this class discusses the societal values and ideals that gave birth to Western art and explores the connection between great works and the environments that stimulated their creation.

                                                               

CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGY (PSY-223) 3 credits
All aspects of children’s physical, cognitive, and psychosocial growth and development from birth through adolescence will be covered.  Students will learn effective ways to care for and work with children.

                             

CHILDREN’S LITERATURE (EDU-235) 3 credits

Students will examine and evaluate the different genres of literature available for children and youth (birth to 4th grade).  This class is appropriate for teachers, librarians, media specialists, and parents.

                                                      

CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY (ANT-105) 3 credits
This study embraces cultures from all continents, highlights major human subsistence patterns, and illustrates human adaptation to environment from the beginning of human history to the present.

                                                     

HEALTH                      (PEH-102) 3 credits
All elements of health; the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual, will be examined and students will be encouraged to take a proactive stance toward maintaining their own health.

               

INTRODUCTION TO ETHICS (PHI-105) 3 credits
Students will explore contemporary ethical conflicts, philosophic inquiry, and examine the language concepts and traditions of ethics

                                                                    

INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE (LIT-101) 3 credits
This introduction to literature incorporates both contemporary and traditional works using dramatizations of individual writings.  Compositions about literature are emphasized.

                                                           

INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPY (PHI-101) 3 credits
Using writings of past philosophers and interviews with contemporary philosophers, students will learn how these classic questions still reverberate in modern society.

                

INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY (PSY-111) 3 credits
Students will study fundamental principles and concepts including: brain and behavior, sensation and perception, conditioning and learning, cognitive process, psychopathology, therapy, stress and health issues.

                                       

INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY (SOC-110) 3 credits
Students will get an in-depth look at groups, communities, institutions, and social situations that illustrate major sociological concepts.

                                                        

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY (SOC-120) 3 credits
This series offers a contemporary look at marriages and families – and the choices, changes and constraints that affect individuals, diverse family types, and interpersonal relationships.
PRINCIPALS OF ASTRONOMY (PHS-142) 3 credits
Students will be introduced to the current status of scientific knowledge, thinking, and theory about the universe from its formation to the existence of extraterrestrial beings.
WORLD REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY (GEO-121) 3 credits
By studying the seven regions of the world and their interconnectedness, students will examine the link between human societies and natural environments.
