Basic Skills Needed in the Program and On the Job
Reading
In addition to
textbooks, students will read general periodicals, trade journals, and
newspapers, including local and national papers. Tests are based on a
combination of textbook (written at college level) and lecture material.
In the workplace,
graduates of the program can expect to read trade journals in their area of
specialization, such as real estate or investment.
Language
To succeed in the
program, students must have good oral and written communication skills, as
well as the ability to work with people to reach company goals. In their
business courses, students may interview business leaders and make class
presentations. Written work will include reports, research papers, and
essay tests.
In the workplace,
graduates will use speaking skills primarily on a one-to-one basis as they
supervise other employees, interact with peers, and make presentations to
customers. Business writing such as letters and memos can also be expected
in the workplace.
Math
General math skills
will be used in the program and on the job.
Thinking Skills
Several of the courses
required in this program (accounting, economics, and business law) require
strong reasoning skills. Students and graduates must be able not only to
memorize facts but also to apply general principles to specific cases.
Drawing inferences from business trends in order to make sound investment
decisions, recognizing cause-effect relationships, and problem-solving in
financial planning are also important skills in this field.
Computer
Introduction to
Computer is a requirement in this program. Additional computer-related
activities in class and on the job involve word processing for written
communications and spreadsheet work connected to accounting.

change and understand how to adapt their business knowledge to new
situations will enable a student to be successful.
What Kind of
Work Will The Student Do?
This program is
designed for students who want comprehensive training in the field of
business administration and management and who wish to enter directly into
the work place. Students may select from four concentration areas: Small
Business Management, Leadership Management, Banking and Finance, and Human
Resource. The program will allow students to qualify for entry-level
positions in their selected field. The program is built on a solid business
core, general education courses, and a concentration specialization. This
will facilitate those students who wish to continue their education.
Employment
Opportunities Include:
Small Business
Management, Retail Management, Restaurant Management, Bank Teller and/or
Loan Officer, Human Resource Management Support Staff, Consumer Service
Representatives, Sales, Real Estate, and Manufacturing.
