The president of Iowa Lakes Community College officially informed the Board of Trustees that he’ll be retiring, effective Feb. 1, 2006. Mike Hupfer, college president since November of 2001, made the formal announcement Tuesday at the Board of Trustees meeting.

Another increase in enrollment has been experienced at Iowa Lakes Community College. This becomes the 10th consecutive fall term for an enrollment record.

IOWA LAKES STUDENTS OBSERVE FOUR-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF SEPT. 11TH Students of Iowa Lakes Community College will set aside time Friday, Sept. 9 and Monday, Sept. 12 to observe the fourth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States.

LAKER FRESHMAN SETS RECORD
Freshman Cassie Hanson of Spirit Lake led Iowa Lakes Community College to a good start to the 2005 season at the Dordt College cross country meet on Friday.  Hanson set a college record at the 4K distance with a 17:25, breaking the old record of 18:24 set by Molly Duitsman in 2003.  Hanson finished 13th in the 40 woman field and was followed closely by freshman Mackenzie Eggers in 14th place with a time of 17:38.4, also well under the college record.

The Iowa Lakes Community College Alumni & Friends Association will meet at the Emmetsburg Campus on Tuesday, September 6. The public is invited to the regular business meeting which will begin at 6 p.m. in the Community Room (#800) in the Wellness Center.

UPWARD BOUND HONORS STUDENTS
Over 50 students were recognized at this year’s annual Upward Bound Summer Banquet. The banquet was held in the Smith Wellness Center on the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College on July 19. Students were recognized for their dedication to academic excellence and their desire to earn a college degree.
