COMPETITION DAY AT IOWA LAKES
The 16th Annual Business Competition
Day at Iowa Lakes Community college
was held March 31 at the Emmetsburg
Campus of Iowa Lakes. Ten area high
schools with 200+ students competed
in this year’s event.

Childhood Day at the state capitol
in Des Moines. The students were
involved in an advocacy training
session on behalf of quality early
care, health and education. They had
time to visit with legislators and
participated in a press conference
with Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack.

FAMILY WORKSHOP: ‘TALKING WITH
CHILDREN ABOUT DRUGS AND ALCOHOL’
Teens and pre-teens often experiment
with alcohol and drugs for many
reasons, including curiosity,
because it feels good, to reduce
stress, to feel grown up or to fit
in. Parents need to become empowered
with research-based information
regarding drugs and alcohol to help
them communicate family values to
their children and to learn the
warning signs of alcohol and drug
use. This workshop is designed to
help parents reach that goal.
