RESULTS ANNOUNCED AT 2005 BUSINESS COMPETITION DAY AT IOWA LAKES
The 16th Annual Business Competition Day at Iowa Lakes Community college was held March 31 at the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes.  Ten area high schools with 200+ students competed in this year’s event.

IOWA LAKES STUDENT WINS ICCAC BASEBALL STUDENT-ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK AWARD
The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its Student-Athlete-of-the-Week award for March 30. Among the winners was Iowa Lakes Community College sophomore Andy Cook.

Iowa Lakes Community College has announced the establishment of the “We Believe In Us” Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship is a direct result of the college’s “We Believe In Us” Annual Giving Program. Iowa Lakes’ employees, community businesses and individuals annually donate to the program for the betterment of the college and its students through scholarships or improvement of programs.

Two Iowa Lakes Community College employees were featured at a national conference earlier this month. Lynn Dodge and Gary Gunderson presented at the National Association of Developmental Education (NADE) conference in Albuquerque, N.M., March 10.

The scholarship committee has several new scholarships from “We Believe In Us” scholarships that have been just established this spring for next fall that the committee is asking for assistance to ensure that all scholarship applications are in their office by 4 p.m. on April 1st.

Iowa Lakes Community College students recently attended an Early Childhood Day at the state capitol in Des Moines. The students were involved in an advocacy training session on behalf of quality early care, health and education. They had time to visit with legislators and participated in a press conference with Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack.

Estherville native, Brian Stinar will give a vocal performance at Iowa Lakes Community College as part of the convocation series. He will be performing at 10 a.m. in the Estherville Campus gymnasium and again at 1 p.m. in the Emmetsburg Campus gymnasium on Monday, March 14.

The Coffee House in March has been rescheduled from March 3 to Tuesday, March 8. The Max (student center) on the Estherville Campus will open its doors at 7 p.m. that evening.

FAMILY WORKSHOP: ‘TALKING WITH CHILDREN ABOUT DRUGS AND ALCOHOL’
Teens and pre-teens often experiment with alcohol and drugs for many reasons, including curiosity, because it feels good, to reduce stress, to feel grown up or to fit in. Parents need to become empowered with research-based information regarding drugs and alcohol to help them communicate family values to their children and to learn the warning signs of alcohol and drug use. This workshop is designed to help parents reach that goal.
