II SOFTBALL ALL-AMERICAN
The 2004 NJCAA All-American softball teams have been named
and Iowa Lakes Community College freshman shortstop Erin
Jones was named as a second team All-American infielder.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL
CAMP
The Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Coaching staff has
announced their summer fundamental camp. It will be held
July 25 - July 28 and it will be open for girls
entering 6th grade through 12th grade.
This camp will be overnight and the girls will be housed in
our spacious, air conditioned dorm rooms. The camp will be
held in the Iowa Lakes Gymnasium on the Estherville
Campus.

The members of the Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community
College voted Tuesday to ask the citizens of the five-county
area to support the college through an equipment levy.

has announced the signing of Laura Shanafelt, a shortstop

The All-Region softball team has been named – and six Iowa
Lakes Community College athletes have been selected. The
players are selected by and voted upon by the coaches in

IOWA LAKES STUDENTS
UPGRADE AND RESTORE '40 FORD FOR POW CAMP
Students in the Auto Collision and Paint Technology Program
at Iowa Lakes Community College learned about some area
history while restoring a 1940 Ford Fordor Deluxe for the
historic Algona Prisoner of War Camp. Camp Algona was a
prisoner of war camp for up to 10,000 German prisoners
during World War II.

weekend in Cedar Rapids ranked 14th in the nation and seeded
third in the tourney.

INSTRUCTOR HIRED FOR NEW
IOWA LAKES PROGRAM
An instructor has been hired at Iowa Lakes Community College
for the new Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program,
pending official action from the Board of Trustees at their
meeting later this month. Al Zeitz comes to Iowa Lakes with
a broad background for the new program which will be
launched this fall at the college.

KIRKWOOD LEADS REGION XI GOLF ACTION
Despite snow pellets, rain showers, wind – and even a little
sun thrown in for good measure – golfers in the Region XI
National Junior College Athletic Association tournament were
able to get a full round of golf in on Sunday at the Spencer
Golf and Country Club.
