IOWA LAKES SOFTBALL SIGNS NEW
ULM STANDOUT
Iowa Lakes Community College head
softball coach announced Thursday that
New Ulm Cathedral standout infielder
Katie Larson has signed a National
Letter of intent to play for the Lakers
and will join the Iowa Lakes softball
program in the fall of 2009 and compete
in the 2009-2010 season.
Larson was the 2008 New Ulm Journal
Player of the Year, a four time
All-Conference selection, a two time
All-State selection and has helped New
Ulm Cathedral and Head Coach Bob Mertz
to an impressive 96-12 record over the
past four seasons, including two state
championships (2005 and 2007). She
batted .510 last season and holds the
New Ulm Cathedral records for career
runs, hits, stolen bases and RBI’s.
Larson is the daughter of Craig and
Kathy Larson of New Ulm.
“It is easy to see that Katie is a
winner,” commented Coach Bosch, “but you
dig a little deeper you see a player
that still has a desire to continually
get better, continually compete and make
everyone around her better. I think any
coach would take a roster full of
players with those attributes.”
She joins a Laker program that has gone
151-40 over the last three seasons,
including a 56-13 record in 2008 and a
5th place finish at the NJCAA World
Series. For more information on Iowa
