INSPIRATIONAL AND ENTERTAINING KEYNOTE SPEAKERS SECURED FOR SENIOR FUN AND WELLNESS DAY

Two speakers have been selected as keynote presenters for the 21st annual Senior Fun and Wellness Day in Emmetsburg.

Joe Piscatella will offer inspiration for improving health; and Dick Dale will inspire attendees to enjoy life everyday and to take a trip down ‘memory lane.’

In the 1970s Joe Piscatella was a successful businessman. Experiencing discomfort in his chest while playing tennis, Joe went for a routine physical exam. Two days later he had emergency open-heart bypass surgery for a 95 percent blockage of the coronary arteries. He was 32 years old and one doctor predicted that Joe would not live to see this children graduate.

In 1982 he founded the institute for Fitness and Heath,

Piscatella will open the Senior Fun and Wellness Day which will be in the cafeteria/student center of the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College on Wednesday, May 14 starting at 8 a. m.

Dick Dale will wrap up the day starting at 12:30 p.m. Dale sang, danced and performed comedy sketches for Lawrence Welk. Spending time with Dale and listening to some of his reminiscences of ‘life in the band’ are guaranteed to bring tears of laughter to the eyes of attendees.

Senior Fun and Wellness Day is held annually and features a day of activities, health screenings, workshops and entertainment.

As always, the event will also feature a plethora of concurrent sessions. Sessions range from Health and Wellness to Massage Therapy. There will also be sessions on: Antiques; Identity Theft; Investment Fraud; Travel; Finances; Aging and Alzheimers; Scrapbooking; Dance; Internet Fun Sites; Nutrition; Overactive Bladder; 20 weeks to Preparedness; Stained Glass; Exercise; and many more.

Again this year, there will be no preregistration. However, there will be a $5 fee at the door to cover the event which includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

“We are very fortunate to be able to have two outstanding speakers this year,” said co-chair Kathy Merrill from Palo Alto County Health System. “Joe Piscatella will inspire us with his personal story of how to live a heart healthy life and Dick Dale will bring back a lot of memories for our guests.”

All participants are encouraged to park in the main, northeast parking lot and enter the college through entrance ‘3’ and then follow the signs.

The event will begin at 7 a.m. with registration, wellness and resource information, coffee and continental breakfast. Piscatella will begin at 8 a.m., in the cafeteria/student center. Dale starts at 12:30 p.m.

The Senior Fun and Wellness Day is sponsored by Iowa Lakes Community College and the Palo Alto County Health System.
