IOWA
LAKES SOFTBALL TEAM LOSES GAME; PLAYS
AGAIN AT 2 P.M.
The Laker women softball team led much
of the game Friday morning, but they
weren’t able to stave off Phoenix
College the defending Division II NJCAA
National Champions.
Action started in the first inning when
Camiel Salcedo led off with a walk;
Stephanie Ochoa singled; and Salcedo
scored on an overthrow to second base to
make it 1-0.
The Laker defense was in good shape as
Andrea Hacker grabbed a home-run saving
ball from over the fence in the bottom
of the third inning.
Then in the top of the fourth, the
Lakers had the bases loaded and Sarah
Dockter walked, making the score 2-0 in
favor of the Laker women. Andrea Hacker
had a two-run double which made the
score 4-0. At that point, Phoenix
College brought in a new pitcher. Aly
Cloud had a two-run single off the new
pitcher to make the score 6-0.
Phoenix College began to
score in the bottom of the fourth with a
two-run home run to make it 6-2. In the
bottom of the 5th, Phoenix
had a home run to make it 6-3 followed
by quite a few base hits by Phoenix and
errors by the Lakers making the score
6-4; followed by a three-run home run in
the inning making the score 7-6 in favor
of Phoenix.
As the Lakers came to bat in the 6th
and 7th innings, they went
down 1,2,3.
At this point, the Laker women play
again at 2 p.m. Friday against the
winner of the Heartland Community
College vs. Kankakee game. The Lakers
beat Kankakee in the first round by a
score of 8-2.
Should the Lakers win, they’ll play
again at 4 p.m. today/Friday.
