LAKER GOLFERS TURN IN SECOND ROUND
SCORES IN PHOENIX
The three Iowa Lakes Men’s Golf Team
national qualifying members completed
the second round at the NJCAA Division
II National Men’s Golf Tournament at
Palm Valley Golf Course in Phoenix,
Ariz.
Tom Thompson of Kimball, S.D., shot a
78, and that score coupled with this
opening round of 76 puts him in a tie
for 42nd place with a two-day
total of 154.
“Tom had a solid round,” said Coach Dan
Soper. “It was tough for most players to
shoot under 80 today.”
Soper went on to explain that scores
were much higher overall in the second
round due to tougher pin placement and
the gusting winds throughout the day.
Ross Froehlich of Algona shot an 82 the
second round, which gave him a total
score of 161 when added to his opening
day score of 79. His scores put him in
a tie for 87th place.
“Ross played pretty well,” said Soper.
“The only problem was the three
double-bogeys in a row that brought his
score up.”
Nick Christensen of Mission, Texas, shot
an opening round 84. His score in the
second round was an 86, giving him a two
day total of 170 and a share of 116th
place.
“Nick also played well today considering
the conditions,” said Coach Soper. “He
had scored two eights on the back nine
which really hurt him.”
