FURNISH RECEIVES LARSCHEID CROSS COUNTRY
SCHOLARSHIP
Jaimie Furnish, a senior at Estherville Lincoln
Central high school, was awarded the Larscheid
family cross country scholarship during
Wednesday’s ELC High School awards ceremony.
This is the first year for the scholarship,
which consists of two $1,250 awards. It was
donated by the Joe and Mary Larscheid family of
Estherville.
Mary is the Executive Dean of the Iowa Lakes
Community College Estherville campus who
developed a love of the sport since her
daughter, who is a junior at ELC, started
running for the ELC-AR team her freshman year.
Iowa Lakes Community College head cross country
coach Molly Struve talks about the Larscheid
scholarships, saying “I am so thankful to the
Larscheid family for donating these two
scholarships. It is great to have their support
in the sport and I know the athletes really
appreciate the financial assistance. Jaimie is a
deserving candidate because she is from the
Estherville area and ran cross country for ELC-AR
for the last two years. She has lots of talent
and I am positive she will be a successful
runner at the college level. She will be a great
addition to the college, both athletically and
academically.”
The second of the two scholarships will be
handed out at a later date to another Iowa Lakes
cross country runner. Iowa Lakes cross country
will be starting their sixth season this fall,
with Molly Struve entering her second season as
head coach.
