LAKER MEN TO GOLF IN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT IN FORT
DODGE
The Iowa Lakes Men’s Golf Team will travel to
Fort Dodge this weekend to participate in the
Region XI Men’s Regional Golf Tournament.
The tournament dates are Sunday, May 4 and
Monday, May 5. Practice rounds will be
played on Saturday, May 3.
At stake in the regional tournament is a
trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in
Goodyear, Ariz., on May 20 – 23.
“We have been a top three team in our region all
season, along with Kirkwood and DMACC,” said
Iowa Lakes Head Coach Dan Soper. “We have
talent and experience with our sophomores and I
feel that the difference will be how our fourth
and fifth scores are as we have to be very good
from top to bottom.”
The Laker men participating in the Region XI
tournament are sophomores Ross Froehlich,
Algona; Andy Soper, Estherville; Tom Thompson,
Kimball, S.D.; and freshmen Nick Christensen,
Mission, Texas; and Max Koster, Breda.
“Our kids have a lot of confidence, as do I, in
their ability to pull out a victory,” said Coach
Soper. “Golf is such a fickle game and
anything can happen, but regardless, this will
go down as one of the best teams to play for the
Lakers.”
The team has already set a new match victory
mark of 42 heading into the regional tournament.
This breaks the old record set by the 2003-04
team of 33. This team also has three
returning national qualifiers in sophomores Ross
Froehlich, Andy Soper and Tom Thompson.
