LANDSCAPE AND TURFGRASS TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
EXPANDS FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE YEARS
Landscape and Turfgrass students at Iowa Lakes
Community College will have a new option
starting in the fall of 2008.
Class work which has been starting in June
will be delayed to concur with the start of the
regular college year in late August. Also,
students will now be able to receive a two-year
Associate in Applied Science degree in Landscape
and Turfgrass Technology.
This will allow our students to graduate with
additional education which will be valuable for
their future in this exciting industry, said
Kevin Fehr, instructor for the program.
Fehr has been working on the transition for more
than a year.
We had extensive discussions with our advisory
committee and students and they recommended
these changes which encouraged us to expand,
said Fehr. We even have students who graduated
from our diploma program who are excited about
the changes and want to join us this fall.
Many of our students choose this program
because they like to work with their hands and
enjoy the outdoors, Fehr said.
Students will receive 82 credits of classes in
the Landscape and Turfgrass program. The program
will include three, on-the-job training
opportunities which offer students the chance to
work at three different locations exploring
jobs anywhere in the United States. In addition,
students also receive their Chemical Applicators
certification from the Iowa Department of
Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
