IOWA LAKES WOMEN BEGIN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT PLAY

The pairings have been set for the 2008 Region XI Women’s Basketball Tournament which begins Tuesday, March 4, 2008.  The top four teams in Region XI will play on their home court Tuesday and converge in Boone Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8, for a shot at the Region XI Championship and a berth to the 2008 NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

Iowa Lakes finished the regular season with a 19-10 record and have the 5th seed in the tournament by virtue of their 10-8 record in regional play.  The Lakers will travel to Marshalltown to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4.  Marshalltown enters post-season play as the four seed with a 20-10 record, 11-7 in the region. 

Other match-ups on Tuesday, March 4, include the number one seed Kirkwood Eagles, 24-6 overall and 18-0 in the region, hosting the eighth seed Southeastern Blackhawks, 11-17 overall and 4-14 in the region.  The second seed Iowa Central Tritons, 28-3 overall and 16-2 in region play, will host the seven seed North Iowa Area Community College, 8-21 overall and 6-12 in region play. Des Moines Area Community College, the third seed with a 23-7 overall and 14-4 in the region, will host the sixth seed Ellsworth Panthers, who are 13-17 overall and 7-11 in the region.  All game times are set for 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday’s winners will meet Friday in the semi-finals.  Games times on Friday are at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.  The championship game will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  All semi-final games and the championship game will be held on the DMACC campus.
