IOWA LAKES CROSS COUNTRY
SIGNS MITCHEL SPARKS
The Iowa Lakes Community College cross
country team recently signed Mitchel Sparks
for the fall 2008 season.
He was also recognized as the second
recipient of the Larscheid family cross
country scholarship. This is the first year
for the scholarship, which consists of two
$1,250 awards. It was donated by the Joe and
Mary Larscheid family of Estherville. Jaimie
Furnish, who will attend Iowa Lakes this
fall and run cross country, was the first
recipient.
Sparks ran cross country and track for Albia
Community High School in southeast Iowa. He
will be studying computer programming this
fall at the Iowa Lakes Estherville campus.
Coach Molly Struve is looking forward to
adding another strong runner to the roster.
“Mitchel has been running for many years and
is a hard working athlete. He was co-captain
of his cross country team last year and was
part of a high school cross country team
that won back-to-back conference titles in
2006 and 2007. His experience and work ethic
will make him a great addition to the team,”
said Struve.
The Iowa Lakes men’s and women’s cross
country teams will be starting their sixth
season this fall at the NJCAA Division I
level.
