IOWA LAKES SOFTBALL
After one of the best seasons in college
history, five Iowa Lakes softball players
were named to All-American teams this past
week. Sophomores Aly Bowers and Kimmie
White along with freshman Stephanie Ochoa
were named NJCAA All-Americans. Bowers,
White, Ochoa, sophomore Brittany Brohmer,
and freshmen Camiel Salcedo were all named
to the NFCA All-American team.
Bowers was a 3rd team NJCAA All-American and
2nd team NFCA All-American after winning 33
games this past season. Bowers set single
season records for innings (248), games
pitched (47) and complete games (33). She
becomes only the second two-time
All-American pitcher in college history and
finished her career with a 54-15 record.
Bowers will play for Bellvue next season.
White was a 2nd team NJCAA All-American and
a 1st Team NFCA All-American and will leave
Iowa Lakes after rewriting the record
books. White holds the records for career
batting average (.481), at bats (403), hits
(194) and doubles (47). White becomes the
fourth Laker player to be named All-American
both years joining Bowers, Sam Rohr and Erin
Jones. White will play next year at
Tennessee Tech.
Ochoa was a 2nd team NJCAA All-American and
a 1st Team NFCA All-American. Ochoa led the
team in batting (.479), hits (104) and
doubles (31) this past season. Her 104 hits
were the most in college history and ended
the season with a 22 game hitting streak.
Brohmer was a 2nd team NFCA All-American
after exploding to hit a college record 22
home runs this past season. She finished
the season leading Iowa Lakes in home runs
and RBIs (73). Brohmer was also named to
the NJCAA World Series all tournament team
after leading the team to a 5th place finish
at nationals.
Salcedo was a 2nd team NFCA All-American
after hitting .395 for Iowa Lakes last
season. Her 92 hits were third behind White
and Ochoa, and her 73 runs scored were
second to only White’s 75.
Iowa Lakes finished the season with a 56-13
record and a 5th place finish at nationals.
The Region XI championship won to get to
nationals was the college’s first in
softball; and 10 of those players on that
winning team return for the 2008-2009
season. For more information on Iowa Lakes
