EMERGING SCHOLARS NAMED
Five Iowa Lakes Community College students
have been named Emerging Scholars for 2008.
Casey Carlson, a Criminal Justice student
from Spirit Lake; Greg Haack, a
Hotel-Restaurant Management student from
Emmetsburg; Richard Kokesh, a Construction
Technology student from Wagner, S.D.; Daniel
Traub, an Auto Collision and Paint
Technology student from Ottosen; and Ben
Ulrich, a Construction Technology student
from West Bend are the students who
qualified for Emerging Scholars this year.
These outstanding students have taken two or
more developmental classes and maintained a
3.35 or better grade point average on 24 or
more credits. These students have a combined
average GPA of 3.62 and have earned between
25 and 53 hours of credit at Iowa Lakes
Community College.
In addition to qualifying on basic criteria,
applicants were asked to write an essay
answering questions about their educational
and career goals. From this essay the
Emerging Scholar of the Year was selected.
Casey Carlson, a Criminal Justice student
from Spirit Lake was named the 2008 Emerging
Scholar of the year at a reception in late
April.
