IOWA LAKES FOUNDATION GOLF OUTING BENEFITS KOSSUTH RESIDENTS

The Iowa Lakes Community College Foundation held its annual golf outing on June 6 at the Algona Country Club.  Seventy-two golfers hit the links to benefit Kossuth County residents with scholarships to attend Iowa Lakes, raising over $6,000. 

“The scholarships make a huge difference in students’ opportunities to attend college,” said Trudy Kattner, Algona Campus Dean.

Flight winners included – Flight 1: Scott Stokes, Jason McCloud, John Beneke, Randy Beernink;  Flight 2: Dave Kading, Max Kading, Marshall Kading, Chris Ahmann; and Flight 3: Greg Mullins, Bill Mullins, Lynn Bierstedt, Jim Crane. The “high score” team of Val Newhouse, Steve Farnsworth, Larry Danielson and JD DePyper received “Drown Your Sorrows” beverage tickets. 

Raffle winner of a HP Business 530 Notebook computer was Neal Elbert of Algona.

A short ceremony preceded play, in which Iowa Lakes Trustee Lynn Kueck presented Brian, Gary and Bill Schiltz a plaque in honor and memory of their father, Don Schiltz, for his contributions to Iowa Lakes Community College.  Don was the Founder and CEO of KOFAB in Algona, a member of the Iowa Lakes Foundation and an Iowa Lakes scholarship benefactor having established the KOFAB Welding and Metal Fabrication Scholarship in 2004.

Iowa Lakes scholarship recipients who will benefit from event funds during fall semester 2008 of the academic year include Jalissa Bowman, Jillian Bowman, Trevor Bruhn, Joseph Carroll, Michelle Garcia, Calvin Hefty, Jeannie Nemmers, Brian O’Donnell, Elizabeth Perry, Amanda Ricklefs, Chelsie Riggert, Paige Schuller, Brooke Simpson, Cristin Tandberg and Megan Zimmerman.
