AVIATION CLASS OFFERED DURING THE SUMMER
AT IOWA LAKES
Iowa Lakes Community College will be
offering an Aircraft Transition Training
class this summer at several area airports.
The class includes flexible hours, and
individuals can gain experience in a brand
new flight simulator as well as the
college’s state-of-the-art Cirrus SR20
airplane. Individuals will receive training
that can certify them to fly planes with
glass cockpits.
A ‘pinch hitter’ course for spouses is also
available this summer. This class will teach
participants how to tune radios and make
calls as well as learn to land planes and
deploy a parachute on a Cirrus plane. This
course is valuable to non-pilot spouses and
loved ones for ‘peace of mind’ while
flying.
Summer is a good time to run this course,
according to Ron Duer, Aviation/Airport
Management Program Co-Coordinator and chief
flight instructor.
“This is a good time of the year for this
class because our flight instructors have
more time when most students head home for
the summer,” Duer said. “For those area
pilots that already have their pilot’s
license, this is a chance to upgrade to the
technologically advanced airplanes that meet
FITS - the FAA Industry Training Standard.
