COLLEGE RECEIVES FEDERAL FUNDS TO HELP
WITH WIND ENERGY AND BIOMASS PROGRAMS
Iowa Lakes
Community College is the recipient of nearly $250,000 in federal
money to help provide equipment for two college programs.
The funds came
from H.R. 2764 which was signed by President Bush Dec. 26. The
law included the Iowa Lakes project. Training and Laboratory
equipment for both the Wind Energy and Biomass Energy programs
at Iowa Lakes Community College is the primary focus of the
project.
“These federal
funds are critical components of Iowa Lakes Community College’s
ability to provide state-of-the-art training and educational
equipment for our wind energy and biorenewable fuels programs,”
said Dr. Harold Prior, President of Iowa Lakes. “This benefits
Iowa and supports a whole new set of industry technicians.”
It helps as the
college moves forward in these arenas.
“This is just
another important installment in an ongoing effort to maintain
our leadership position in the business of training tomorrow’s
workforce to help make Iowa the leader in sustainable/renewable
energy as part of Gov. Culver’s goals of making Iowa the first
state to be energy independent,” Pres. Prior said.
The Wind Energy
and Turbine Technology program started in 2004 at the
Estherville campus. The Biomass Energy Processing program (Biorenewable
Fuels) began in 2005 and is based at the Emmetsburg campus.
