Iowa
Lakes Softball signs six on National Signing Date
Tuesday,
January 15 was the NJCAA national signing date and Iowa
Lakes Community College Head Softball Coach Mike Bosch has
announced the signing of six 2008 graduates that will join
the Iowa Lakes program next fall.
Infielder
Christa Clayton, Estherville; pitcher Ashley Meyer, Rapid
City, S.D.; catcher Ashley Heiberger, Sioux Falls, S.D.;
outfielder Erin Tjornhom, Eagan, Minn.; utility player Sammy
Byers, Lewiston, Idaho; and catcher/outfielder Brooke Davis,
Lynnwood, Wash.; will join the Iowa Lakes softball program
in the fall of 2008 and compete in the 2008-2009 season.
Clayton is
a three time All-Lakes Conference shortstop while playing
for Estherville Lincoln Central. Last summer she was an
integral part in ELC winning the Lakes Conference title and
advancing to the Regional final game. She was also a 2007
Honorable Mention All-State selection last summer. Clayton
is the daughter of Steve and Sandy Clayton.
Meyer is a
four time All-State selection while playing for Rapid City
Stevens. Meyer has won two state championships as well as
2006 U-18 ASA State Championship, the 2007 U-16 ASA State
Championship and just recently played for 2007 Triple Crown
USA Team that played in Australia and New Zealand. Meyer is
the daughter of Alan and Julie Meyer.
Heiberger
and her Sioux Falls Lincoln team were the 2007 state
champions and she was a two time All-State selection.
Heiberger played for the Sioux Falls Flamez in the summer of
2007 and her team played in the 16U National Tournament.
She also played in the All-American televised game while her
team played in the Colorado Sparkler last summer. Heiberger
is the daughter of Dick and Cindy Heiberger.
Tjornhom
currently plays for the Minnesota Sting as well as Eagan
High School. She was a member of the 16U class A
championship team, and 18U class A USSSA national
champions. Tjornhom is the daughter of Steve and Donna
Tjornhom.
Byers
currently plays for the 18A and 18 Gold Spokane Sliders,
which finished their fall season playing in tournaments in
California and Florida. She was the MVP of the 2007 16B NSA
Nationals. Byers is the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Byers.
Davis
currently plays for the Washington Triple Threat 18 Gold
travel team and batted .425 while playing for Bothel High
School. Davis was a 2nd team All-Kingco
selection in 2007 and played in the Colorado Sparkler
All-American Showcase. Chris and Brooke Davis are her
parents.
“I like the
athletic ability of this group,” commented Coach Bosch,
“they are all very competitive and committed to succeeding.
Combine these six with the returning sophomores and we
should be in good shape for 2009. We are proud to have them
put on the Iowa Lakes jersey next fall.”
They join a
Laker program that has gone 140-45 over the last three
