Iowa Lakes Softball signs six on National Signing Date

Tuesday, January 15 was the NJCAA national signing date and Iowa Lakes Community College Head Softball Coach Mike Bosch has announced the signing of six 2008 graduates that will join the Iowa Lakes program next fall.

Infielder Christa Clayton, Estherville; pitcher Ashley Meyer, Rapid City, S.D.; catcher Ashley Heiberger, Sioux Falls, S.D.; outfielder Erin Tjornhom, Eagan, Minn.; utility player Sammy Byers, Lewiston, Idaho; and catcher/outfielder Brooke Davis, Lynnwood, Wash.; will join the Iowa Lakes softball program in the fall of 2008 and compete in the 2008-2009 season.

Clayton is a three time All-Lakes Conference shortstop while playing for Estherville Lincoln Central.  Last summer she was an integral part in ELC winning the Lakes Conference title and advancing to the Regional final game.  She was also a 2007 Honorable Mention All-State selection last summer.  Clayton is the daughter of Steve and Sandy Clayton.

Meyer is a four time All-State selection while playing for Rapid City Stevens.  Meyer has won two state championships as well as 2006 U-18 ASA State Championship, the 2007 U-16 ASA State Championship and just recently played for 2007 Triple Crown USA Team that played in Australia and New Zealand.  Meyer is the daughter of Alan and Julie Meyer.

Heiberger and her Sioux Falls Lincoln team were the 2007 state champions and she was a two time All-State selection.  Heiberger played for the Sioux Falls Flamez in the summer of 2007 and her team played in the 16U National Tournament.  She also played in the All-American televised game while her team played in the Colorado Sparkler last summer. Heiberger is the daughter of Dick and Cindy Heiberger.

Tjornhom currently plays for the Minnesota Sting as well as Eagan High School.  She was a member of the 16U class A championship team, and 18U class A USSSA national champions.  Tjornhom is the daughter of Steve and Donna Tjornhom.

Byers currently plays for the 18A and 18 Gold Spokane Sliders, which finished their fall season playing in tournaments in California and Florida.  She was the MVP of the 2007 16B NSA Nationals.  Byers is the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Byers.

Davis currently plays for the Washington Triple Threat 18 Gold travel team and batted .425 while playing for Bothel High School.  Davis was a 2nd team All-Kingco selection in 2007 and played in the Colorado Sparkler All-American Showcase.  Chris and Brooke Davis are her parents.

“I like the athletic ability of this group,” commented Coach Bosch, “they are all very competitive and committed to succeeding.  Combine these six with the returning sophomores and we should be in good shape for 2009.  We are proud to have them put on the Iowa Lakes jersey next fall.”

They join a Laker program that has gone 140-45 over the last three seasons.  For more information on Iowa Lakes softball contact Head Softball Coach Mike Bosch at 712-362-7997 or go to the Iowa Lakes Web site at www.iowalakes.edu.
