AUDITIONS FOR SPRING MUSICAL APPROACHING RAPIDLY
Auditions for the
spring musical at Iowa Lakes Community College are approaching
rapidly. Those interested in trying out for “Once Upon a
Mattress” will want to attend auditions Feb. 3, 4, or 5.
“We will need a
large cast with at least nine men and nine women with an
unlimited number of chorus members, including children and
adults,” said Carol Ayres, professor of Music. “We are looking
for talented actors, singers and dancers to make this production
come alive.
“It does not
matter what your experience level, we will provide opportunities
for novices and seasoned veterans alike to shine in this
well-known musical theatre production,” Ayres added.
The story is
built around “The Princess and the Pea,” which is a Hans
Christian Andersen fairytale. But, this version offers a
walloping surprise for theater-goers! “Once Upon a Mattress” is
carried on a wave of wonderful songs, turns hilarious and
raucous, romantic and melodic. This rollicking spin on the
familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for
some side-splitting shenanigans.
Those interested
in auditioning on Feb. 3, 4, or 5 will find a list of the
characters and their descriptions on the Iowa Lakes Web site at
www.iowalakes.edu. Go to
Quick Links and select “Music’ – then click on the announcement
for the 2008 musical.
Auditions will be
held in room #74 of the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes
Community College with children auditioning at 6:30 p.m. and
adults at 7 p.m. All area residents are encouraged to audition
for this musical. Those interested need to attend only one of
the three sessions.
The production
will be performed on April 3, 4 and 5.
“Once Upon A
Mattress” has music by Mary Rodgers; lyrics by Marshall Barer;

Upon a Mattress” is presented through special arrangement with R
