STUDENTS ASSESS LIFESTYLES/WELLNESS – FOR THE HEALTH OF
IT!
Students at Iowa Lakes Community College will have a chance
to participate in a wellness program this spring.
The program is part of a collegewide wellness initiative to
increase students’ awareness of their potential health risks
based on their medical history and lifestyle choices – and
to promote a healthier student body.
To launch the program, the college has selected the week of
February 18 to make the Web-based assessment, MyFile,
available to all enrolled students. Three of the five
campuses will promote this wellness program by hosting
Student Health Fairs on the Emmetsburg, Estherville and
Spencer campuses. Numerous community resources and several
college clubs are planning to participate in the fairs by
providing educational materials and other resources that
contribute to wellness and healthy lifestyles.
Throughout the week of February 18, students will be able to
access the MyFile system from a link on the Iowa Lakes
Community College Homepage. The questionnaire consists of
55 questions and takes between 12 and 15 minutes to
complete. The questionnaire is designed to capture current
health data and assess behaviors that may place a student at
risk.
After completion, the student will receive a 12-page MyFile
Personal Health Record (PHR). The benefit for students is
that the PHR provides a tool for them to better manage their
interaction with their family health care provider.
To encourage student participation in the wellness program,
the college will conduct a drawing for the grand prize, a
Ninetendo® WiiTM. To enter the drawing, students will need
to go online and complete the Web-based assessment during
the week of February 18.
Health Fair Dates include: Emmetsburg campus, Monday, Feb.
18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Estherville campus, Monday, Feb. 18, 10
a.m.-2 p.m.; and, Spencer campus, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 10
a.m.-2 p.m.
Iowa Lakes is using MyFile, a student Health Risk Assessment
(HRA) program utilizing innovative wellness technology
provided by AMES, a national provider of solutions for the
management of health information.
