IOWA LAKES FOUNDATION HOSTS FINE ARTS
SCHOLARSHIP FUND RAISER
In conjunction
with the Spencer Community Theatre, the Iowa Lakes Community
College Foundation will host an evening of fun, food and music
on Thursday, Feb. 7.
Plan now to
attend “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story” performed at the Spencer
Community Playhouse. Having audiences around the world dancing
in the aisles, this musical is a celebration of the life of
legendary singer/songwriter, Buddy Holly, who shot to stardom in
1957, only to die in a plane crash, two years later alongside
17-year-old Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson - the “Big
Bopper.”
“Buddy” is
directed by veteran SCT directors Jan Edmondson and Kathy
Krebsbach with Musical Direction by Amy Knoup. The large cast
features Chad Elliott as Buddy, Scott Meier as the Big Bopper
and Karli Frerichs as Maria Elena (Buddy’s wife).
To commemorate
northwest Iowa’s connection to the material in the show, the SCT
Playhouse Lobby will feature art and photographs celebrating the
life of the three musicians tragically killed near Clear Lake.
Memorabilia have been generously lent to the SCT Playhouse by
the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and residents of Spencer and
the surrounding areas.
The evening will
begin at 6:30 p.m. with a social time, appetizers and beverage
in the SCT Playhouse Lobby. Theater doors will open at 7 p.m.
with the play beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and tickets
may be acquired by calling the SCT Box Office at 712-262-7336
and specifying the Feb. 7 Iowa Lakes Foundation Scholarship
Benefit Evening. Proceeds from this event will benefit music and
art students with scholarships to attend Iowa Lakes Community
College.
