PLANS UNDER WAY FOR NEW SUBSTANCE ABUSE
COUNSELING PROGRAM AT IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY
COLLEGE
A two-year program in Substance Abuse Counseling
will again be available at Iowa Lakes Community
College this fall.
The Substance Abuse Counseling Program is
designed to provide students with the education
and skills which have been established by the
Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification to
become a Level 1certified alcohol and drug
counselor (CADC).
The core classes will be offered during the day
in Estherville by Amy Ver Mulm, Human
Services/Disabilities Instructor, and at the
Spencer campus in the evening. Supporting
general education classes are available in a
variety of delivery formats.
The final step in the program requires a
practicum component at a drug and alcohol
treatment unit where students will apply the
core skills they have acquired under the direct
supervision of a certified counselor.
