SECOND ANNUAL PRESIDENT’S CIRCLE BANQUET HELD

The second annual Iowa Lakes Community College President’s Circle banquet was held at the Emmetsburg campus on March 27. Guests enjoyed an elegant meal that Hotel & Restaurant Management students helped prepare and serve.

Business/Institutional Assessment Professor Anne Wimmer shared facts relating to the Iowa Lakes Presidential Scholars program. Many valedictorians, salutatorians and other academically high ranking students attend Iowa Lakes Community College under this program. Students receive 60-100% tuition awards depending on criteria met.

Legal Studies Instructor Mark Gruwell and student, Alex Bleuer, spoke on the Legal Studies program. This program has the distinction of being chosen to review cases for the Innocence Project of Iowa, an initiative to overturn wrongful convictions, thereby exonerating innocent persons.

Hotel & Restaurant Management Professor Bob Halverson and Food Service Coordinator Steve Olerich introduced students involved with preparation and serving of the evening’s meal. Professor Halverson gave an overview of the Hotel & Restaurant Management program and revealed that many of the program’s students are involved with internships in the local area.

Iowa Lakes President Dr. Harold Prior thanked everyone for attending and explained how essential their monetary help has been to the college. To date 16 new scholarships have been established, 13 existing scholarships enhanced and many programs, events and other areas have been improved due to President’s Circle members.
