IOWA LAKES PROFESSOR NAMED IN ‘TOP FOUR’ FOR
ONLINE TEACHING IN IOWA CONSORTIUM
An Iowa Lakes Community College Professor has
been named as one of the top four instructors
for online teaching in a statewide group.
Carol Ayres, Professor of Music, was selected as
one of four finalists of the “e11 Outstanding
Online Instructor” award given by the Iowa
Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC), a
partnership of community colleges teaching
online courses. She was honored at a dinner
during the annual conference of ICCOC in late
March.
Ayres was selected for her fully online Music
Appreciation class. She was cited for
demonstrating creation of superior online
content; development of highly engaging learning
opportunities; formation of outstanding
mentoring relationships with students; promotion
of exceptional learner-learner; and, use of
first-rate approaches to assessment.
She has been at Iowa Lakes since 1988 where she
leads the instrumental music groups; teaches
humanities classes of music appreciation and
jazz history; works on the biennial
college/community musical; co-organizes the
college Madrigal; is the director of the Iowa
Lakes University of Okoboji Reggie Schive Annual
Summer Jazz Camp; and is involved in several
Lakes area musical events throughout the year.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from
Buena Vista University and her Master’s degree
in Music Education at the University of South
Dakota.
The “e11 Outstanding Online Instructor” award is
named after the first 11 instructors who began
the effort to teach online courses. Two of those
instructors, Dr. Bob Klepper and Paula Henry,
are Iowa Lakes instructors and continue to teach
coursework for the ICCOC.
