SOFTBALL PLAYER PICKS UP NATIONAL AWARD
An Iowa Lakes
Community College softball player has received a national award
for outstanding play this past season.
Ashley
Souphimdara, a student-athlete on the 2007 softball team, was
selected to receive the NJCAA Division II 2007 adidas Golden
Shoe Award which is presented annually to the top baserunners.
She is the only NJCAA Division II winner and just one of nine
women across the country to receive the award.
Souphimdara, of
Brandon, S.D., swiped 45 of 47 bases in 2007 as she helped guide
Iowa Lakes to a 38-19 record. Her 95 percent stolen base
percentage ranked fourth in NJCAA Division II. The team’s
second-best hitter at a .459 clip, the sophomore drove in 28
runs over the 56-game slate.
Presented
annually by adidas, the NFCA’s (National Fastpitch Coaches
Association) “Official Footwear,” the Golden Shoe Award
recognizes athletes from member schools in nine divisions.
Divisional
committees comprised of NFCA member coaches determined the
adidas Golden Shoe Award winners.
