IOWA LAKES RECEIVES SUSTAINABLE ENERGY GRANT
Iowa Lakes
Community College, has received a grant to educate young people
on the benefits of sustainable energy.
This project will
involve
college faculty creating sustainable energy education
modules for middle school students. The goal is to deliver
sustainable energy education across Iowa. A web-based energy
seminar for instructors will be developed. The focus of the
seminar will cover how to deliver energy education modules to
students.
College faculty
will provide curriculum to incorporate into lesson plans.
Naturalists will give middle school students presentations about
sustainable energy; and introduce them to several renewable
energy topics including an introduction to sustainable energy,
wind energy and biomass fuels (ethanol and biodiesel.)
Professor Gary
Phillips will coordinate this partnership project with county
Conservation Board naturalists.
“We are extremely
pleased to be entering into this project with the EPA and
believe this will give us an opportunity to introduce the
concepts of sustainable energy to a very large number of
students across the state of Iowa,” said Phillips, Professor of
Environmental Studies at Iowa Lakes. “This is going to be a very
valuable project for the citizens of our state.”
Funding for this
$15,313 project is from the Environmental Protection Agency.
