IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE AWARDS CASS &
YACKLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Iowa Lakes
Community College has awarded the 2007-08 Maxine Cass & Deanne
Yackle Memorial Scholarship to recipient Jodee Goche of
Bancroft.
The Cass and
Yackle families established this scholarship in 2005 in memory
of Maxine and Deanne. The families had an intertwined history
which culminated in the result of this scholarship. Maxine’s
husband William served as the Dolliver school superintendent in
the 1950’s; during that time Maxine also attended Estherville
Junior College now known as Iowa Lakes Community College.
William and Maxine retired to California where Maxine passed
away in 1979. William returned to the area to attend Dolliver’s
centennial celebration where he heard Deanne Yackle speak of her
life, how undaunted by rheumatoid arthritis she continued to
struggle to achieve her goals. After Deanne’s untimely death,
William was moved to donate a gift to the already established
Iowa Lakes Deanne Yackle Memorial Scholarship. Instead, the
Yackle family suggested a scholarship be established in memory
of Maxine and Deanne.
Eligible
candidates for this scholarship must be enrolled part time or
full time in the Human Services/Disability Studies program or in
any Iowa Lakes program if they have a documented disability
themselves. The recipient must display financial need and use
the award for tuition, books and/or fees.
